Contact your network provider to know their unlocking terms and conditions. If your contract has already expired or you've been able to end your current plan by paying the termination fee, the network operators will now allow you to unlock your phone. If you are traveling outside network provider’s coverage area and you need a local carrier in your location, you can request for unlocking as well.

Reach for your new carrier. Most of the network operators will let you unlock a phone for it will increase their profitability. Reach for your chosen carrier and ask for their policies.

Check your iPhone compatibility. If you want to unlock your iPhone by switching to your prefered carrier, check if your handset is approved by the network provider.

If you unlock your iPhone Through a Paid Service, do the following:

In iTunes, you can identify the IMEI code in the iPhone’s storage capacity, above the Summary window.

2. Retrieve your iPhone’s IMEI code. Your iPhone will be added to Apple’s official unlocked phones list, which means it will stay unlocked even if you upgrade iOS versions. To add the iPhone to the list, the company you are paying will ask for your phone’s IMEI (International Mobile Station Equipment Identity) code, which is unique to any of the iPhone. You can find this by:

Identify your IMEI code by typing *#06#. Applicable on all iPhones.

On an original iPhone5, the number can be found on the bottom part.

On an iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, and 4S. the IMEI is engraved on the SIM Card.

In iTunes, you can see the IMEI code in the Summary window, beneath the iPhone’s storage capacity.

If activating your iPhone failed, download the latest version of iOS. The jailbreak will be terminated if your phone has jailbroken already. After the restoration process, your phone should be connected to the new carrier.
